Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT), in what is seen as another gesture of reconciliation, organized the dispatch of a group of Northern students to interact with Southerners during a tour to places of tourist attraction and the Army cantonment in Panagoda.
A group of 40 students, including 16 from Mullaittivu Maha Vidyalaya and 24 from Mullaittivu Vidyananda Maha Vidyalaya, together with several teachers and parents took part in this educational tour that visited Colombo Museum, Galle Face, Planetarium, Colombo Port and several other places of tourist interest during two-days (Dec 11 – 12).
The climax of the programme reached when they had the rare chance of witnessing a display of the Army Band and Drill organized at Panagoda Army Cantonment specially for them. The visit, a novel exposure for the first time in their life-span, was implemented on a suggestion, made by the Commander of the Army to the Army Drill and Band groups.
Towards the end of the programme, those Mullaittivu students freely interacted with Army physical trainers, soldiers and others taking part in the display. Before their departure from the venue, all of them were entertained to refreshments as a token of brotherhood, solidarity and goodwill.
Major General L.B.R Mark, Commander, SFHQ-MLT has given his blessings to the project.
