Ex-Combatants Under Rehabilitation Complete Sinhala Proficiency Course

A total of 98 former combatants, now under rehabilitation at Poonthottam Rehabilitation Centre in Vavuniya successfully completed the two-week long ‘Sinhala Language Proficiency’ course and received certificates in a brief ceremony on Friday (13).  

The fortnight-long Sinhala Language Course, conducted by instructors of the Official Language and Training Centre, selected the best 22 students who scored more than 90 marks in the Course after close scrutiny.

Mr Prasad R Herath, Director General, Official Language and Training Centre as the Chief Guest, participated in the certificate award ceremony where he underlined the importance of learning both Sinhala and English to certificate recipients, apart from their own mother tongue.

The rehabilitee, M Indra Kumara became the Best Student in the course and received a special award on the same occasion.  

The programme was coordinated by Colonel Dayamal Jayasuriya, Rehabilitation Coordination Officer of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W).
