Army Military Intelligence Corps Headquarters to Be a Full- Fledged Complex

Sri Lanka Army's Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) Headquarters at Karandeniya, now on the road to be a full-fledged wing, identical with all other Regimental Headquarters, declared open its new Parade Ground on Saturday (14) and inaugurated work of the proposed MIC School, Banquet Hall and a Club for rest and recreation for all ranks.

MIC in the Army which has hitherto performed a commendable service to the country, particularly during the decades-long threats for separation, came into being, following initiatives, taken by Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army when he himself was a senior officer a few years ago.

Saturday's opening of the new MIC Parade Ground by the Commander of the Army as Chief Guest at the invitation of Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, Colonel Commandant MIC and Major General Udaya Perera, Director General MIC, turned out to be a turningpoint in its life-span as the Commander recalled his memories, associated with the founding of the MIC many years ago.

Religious observances at the Buddha statue at the entrance to the Headquarters premises got the day's itinerary off  after the Commander was warmly received. A formal Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour, presented by MIC troops that followed on behalf of the visiting Army Chief, set the stage, signalling the auspicious minute and inviting Lieutenant General Ratnayake to unveil a plaque and declare open the new Parade Ground of MIC troops.

A fortress-type new entrance to the ground impressed the visiting Commander who shared a couple views with its architect who was present at the occasion soon after its inauguration.

A customary address afterwards to all troops plus a separate address to MIC Officers followed the Commander inspecting the construction sites of the proposed MIC Training School, Banquet Hall and the Club House complex for all ranks which would elevate the MIC Regimental Headquarters to be on par with any other Army regimental headquarters elsewhere in the island.

Adding memories to the occasion, the visiting Commander was then invited to plant a tree sapling in the premises before he was presented a symbolic memento by Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, MIC Colonel Commandant on behalf of all ranks in the MIC Regiment soon after his address to the troops.
