Jaffna, once recorded one of the highest number of Dengue deaths and patients way back in the year 2010 has been able to drastically cut down the toll as a result of the contribution, made by Army troops jointly with Health Department officials and workers.
Army troops of the 51 Division hand in hand with health officials recently conducted a week-long awareness programme on Dengue in Gurunagar, Suthumalai, Karainagar, Chullipuram, Kokuvil and Manippay areas during Nov 29 - Dec 5.
Soldiers of all battalions serving under 511, 512 and 513 Brigades cleared garbage dumps, polluted wells and cleaned public spots such as religious places and schools during the whole week.
Public Health Inspectors and civilians supported and joined the soldiers to conduct the Shramadana work in respective areas.
