'Abimansala-2' Marks Its First Birth Day

The first anniversary of the Kamburupitiya ‘Abimansala-2’ wellness resort was marked with elaborate programmes, including an all-night Pirith chanting plus alms-givings.

The inaugural commemorative ceremonies got underway on Friday (22) evening with the Pirith chanting ceremony. Major General Crishantha De Silva, Chief of Staff on behalf of the Commander of the Army, attended the Pirith chanting ceremony as the Chief Guest for the occasion. At the entrance to the premises, the Chief Guest was received by the Commandant at ‘Abimansala-2’.

After the relics and the book containing Pirith suttas (pirivanaa poth vahanse) were conducted to the octagon (pirith mandapaya), the Chief Guest after offering a tray of betel invited the monks to commence formal chanting.

On Saturday (23) a gathering of 50 monks are expected to take part in an alms-giving ceremony after the offer of Heel Daana (breakfast) to the members of the Maha Sangha who would conclude the previous day’s chanting.

The apex of the anniversary arrangements reaches on Sunday (24) with a special musical evening after the next of kin of ‘Abimansala-2’ inmates are hosted to lunch, together with the staff serving the wellness resort.
