Lord Allah's Blessings Invoked on Forthcoming Army Anniversary


Lighting the oil lamp of the most sacred Dawatagaha Jumma Masjid Mosque at Colombo Town Hall junction and garlanding the holy place, Ziharath of Sheik Usman Valiyullah in the shrine, in keeping with Islamic traditions, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, together with a host of officers and other ranks, joined prayer sessions to receive blessings on the Army’s forthcoming 64th Anniversary and Army Day (Oct 10) on Thursday (3) evening.

Mr Naizer Cader, Chairman, Dawatagaha Jumma Masjid Mosque received the Commander and his retinue at the entrance to the Mosque and conducted them to the inner shrine.

The customary Islamic religious prayers, one of the forerunners to the forthcoming Army 64th anniversary, led by the Maulavi, Rev. A.C.A Faleel, together with the Sinhala prayer session, performed by Rev. Alhaj Kari Faleel Hassan, invoked blessings on the organization, appreciating the services, being rendered by the Army for the best interests of the country.

The event, organized by the Chairman, Brigadier M.Z.R Sally and members of the Army Muslim Association, got underway with the participation of many Muslim members of the Army and the general public.

Commander towards the end of the religious ceremony, at the request of the clergy and the Chairman, signed the VIP book, maintained in the Mosque and afterwards made a monetary contribution towards the uplift of its religious activities.

Thursday’s Islamic prayers was the third leg of the series of anniversary events that has been organized, on behalf of serving Muslim members of the Army. The two previous Buddhist ceremonies at Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy and Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya were attended by hundreds of representative members of the Army earlier this week.
