New Chief of Staff Assumes Duties Amidst Blessings


Major General A. W. J. Crishanthe De Silva, the newly-appointed Chief of Staff of the Army took office Thursday (15) morning during a simple ceremony at his office in the Army Headquarters.

Members of the Maha Sangha, headed by Ven. Kaduruduwe Sugathawansa Thero, invoked blessings on the new appointment, chanting Seth Pirith after the new Chief of Staff lit the traditional oil lamp for inauguration of his office.

In accordance with military formalities, Major General Crishanthe De Silva afterwards placed his signature on a formal document and symbolically commenced his official duties amidst religious blessings.
     
Major General Crishanthe De Silva who counts a service spanning more than 33 years has a wide ranging experience in various command, staff and instructional appointments in the Army. He was the Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force before he was elevated to the office of the Chief of Staff.

During his career, he has served as the Security Force Commander - Kilinochchi, Military Secretary, Director Operations at the Army Headquarters, Commandant and Chief Instructor of the Army Command and Staff College and Chief Instructor of the Sri Lanka Military Academy.

He is a recipient of the gallantry medal, Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) and Uttama Seva Padakkama (USP) for recognition of his unblemished career. Several senior officers, including Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Military Secretary were present at the occasion.
