611 Brigade troops under 61 Division Headquarters in Vavuniya facilitated the donation of a variety of school accessories and reading glasses among students and civilians on Sunday (11).
Members of the donor agency, Pattakannu Foundation, headed by Mr Thyagarajah, together with Dr Keerthika, President, ‘Smile Sri Lanka’ who sponsored the donation of 265 reading glasses for civilians and 50 school bags and parcels for parentless school students at Thausiyakulam Vidyalayam in Ichchankulam, Vavuniya, were present for distribution of them at the school premises during a separate ceremony.
Troops showing their goodwill and cooperation provided refreshments and lunch to all the students and parents attending the donation ceremony on the directions of the 611 Brigade serving the area. It was the same organization which conducted a medical clinic for dental care among civilians in the area around the same time.
General Officer Commanding, 61 Division, 611 Brigade Commander, 612 Brigade Commander, 61 Division Civil Affairs Coordinating Officer, senior officers, members of sponsoring organizations attended these events.
