New Officers' Mess Plus Entrance Gate Opening at Pangolla Adds New Look to 5th Reconnaissance Regiment, SLAC

A state-of-the-art new Officers’ Mess building and a huge entrance gate at Pangolla-stationed 5th Reconnaissance Regiment of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) were vested in the troops on Friday (19) during a ceremony, graced by General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army and Colonel Commandant, SLAC Regiment as the Chief Guest.

On arrival at the premises, the Commander was received by Lieutenant Colonel T.C. Harasgama, Commanding Officer 5th Reconnaissance Regiment, SLAC in the company of senior SLAC officers including Major General Milinda Peiris, Vice Chancellor, Kotelawala Defence University and several others.

At the auspicious minute, the Chief Guest unveiled a plaque and walked through the new Entrance Gate that added magnificence and dignity to the entire SLAC camp premises at Pangolla, Kurunegala.

The Commander was afterwards conducted to the venue in a procession before he was invited to open the new Officers’ Mess in accordance with house-warming rites and rituals. Unveiling of a plaque on the same occasion by the Chief Guest signaled the importance of the project.

The Chief Guest, flanked by senior officers had a thorough look inside and attentively inquired into the facilities available for officers in the new Officers’ Mess after visiting several rooms.

In appreciation of the Commander’s presence and his interest shown towards the project, Lieutenant Colonel T.C. Harasgama, Commanding Officer 5th Reconnaissance Regiment, SLAC presented a symbolic memento to the Chief Guest at the same occasion.

Later on, by planting a tree sapling in the premises, the Chief Guest added a symbolic memory to his visit and the opening of those two structures.
