A stock of essentials, including bicycles, sewing machines, water pumps, sports equipment, hand crutches, pairs of spectacles and school accessories, collected by a team of philanthropists, headed by Hon. Vidura Wickramanayaka (Parliamentarian) from Horana area were recently distributed among civilians in newly resettled areas during separate occasions at Iyakachchi Government Tamil Mixed School and Thalaiady Roman Catholic Mixed School.
During the occasion, Brigadier Ajith Wijesinghe, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division gave a brief description of different welfare projects, being pursued by Army troops under the guidance of Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna, to visiting donors.
Mr Wickramanayaka (Parliamentarian), Vice Chairman, Horana Pradeshiya Sabha, senior officers. Civil Affairs officers, community leaders and villagers attended the occasion.
