His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa placed the blessed treasure within the Basal Rings of the 'Sandahiru Seya' (Victory Stupa) in the presence of Secretary Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa in Anuradhapura this morning (23rd June).
The occasion was held to coincide with the sacred Poson Poya full moon day. Buddhist devotees from all parts of the Island converge in the holy city of Anuradhapura to celebrate the day on which the message of the Bhuddhism was brought to Sri Lanka.
The function was held at the site where the first of nine magnificent stupas is being constructed in appreciation of the noble services rendered by the armed forces and police in defeating terrorism and saving the nation.
Hon. Chief Minister of the North Central Province SM Ranjith, Hon. Minister Thissa Karaliyadda, Presidential Secretary Lalith Weerathunga, tri forces commanders, IGP and defence ministry officials also joined in the blessed ceremony.
In addition, blessed treasure from 13 regions was also placed by the respective District Secretaries during the occasion signifying the importance and admiration of the public towards the services of the armed forces.
The dignitaries placed the treasures amidst the shower of fragrant flower petal from by a SLAF helicopter. The religious fervor of the occasion was increased manifold by the presence of thousands of devotees all clad in white and full of piety.
Meanwhile the exposition of the sacred relic of the Gangarama Temple (Hunupitiy) which was brought in to Anuradhapura yesterday is also underway in the vicinity of the stupa.
