Newly-promoted General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army on Tuesday (18), addressing all senior officers, including Principal Staff Officers, Security Force Commanders, Directors, General Officers Commanding and Brigade Commanders at the Army Headquarters soon after his promotion to the rank of General wanted everyone to maintain the standards and quality, hitherto attained by all serving the organization.

In his address at the Army Headquarters, the Commander wanted everyone to work collectively and not for an individual, but for the best interests of the organization in the future as well.

He emphasized that future commanders should be well-prepared and ready to take any challenges while working for a common goal to achieve best results. Discipline in the Army should remain a top priority at all times and this should be maintained uninterruptedly, the Commander said to the packed audience.

During my tenure, attempts were made to give the best of welfare facilities to hundreds of disable soldiers by way of creating wellness resorts, like Abimansala and making their leisure time more meaningful. The Seva Vanitha Army Branch did a marvelous and commendable job in this direction for the benefit of those War Heroes. Their role was untiring and energetic. They deserve a special word of thanks from me, the Commander added.

At the same time, more and more opportunities in UN assignments and foreign training courses were made available for officers, thereby creating better exposures of the Army to foreign destinations. In the future such openings overseas will increase further, he underlined.

Everyone should work in unity to do a better job for the betterment of the organization in the future. HE the President talked high of the standards that have been achieved by the Army as of today after assumption of office by me as the Army Commander and wanted to maintain such status quo, and if possible, to further promote those qualities and standards in the future too among our troops, the Commander urged.

If not for the support you all extended to me, I would not have been able to deliver those services as the Commander. So I would like to thank each and every one of you, the Commander stated.

He appealed everyone to do better and maintain standards at all times. Wishing good luck to all in the Army, the Commander concluded his speech to the officers, delivered as a military formality.
