Attidiya 'Mihindu Seth Medura' Celebrates Its Second Birth Anniversary

‘Mihindu Seth Medura’, the wellness resort founded by Ministry of Defence and Urban Development at Attidiya, Dehiwala for life-time care of about 52 dependent War Heroes, is two years old and marks the event with a series of commemorative arrangements.

To mark the milestone in its life span, an all-night Pirith chanting, religious rites and rituals. got underway Saturday (15) evening with the participation of the project’s trailblazer Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence & Urban Development as the Chief Guest.

Commander of the Army, General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage, Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal H.D. Abeywickrama and a host of other invitees graced the occasion.

Soon after the Chief Guest’s arrival, induction of the theme song of the ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’, now managed by the Army took place in the presence of distinguished invitees and ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’ inmates.

Minutes after its launch, members of the Maha Sangha were conducted to the venue in a colourful procession, preceded by several dancing groups.

The mentor of the project, Mr Rajapaksa after respectfully accepting the sacred relic casket from the Maha Sangha placed it in the traditional Pirith Kotuwa (octagonal structure for recital) and invited the monks to commence the blessings after offering the Deheth Wattiya (tray of betel), in accordance with age-old religious traditions.

A large gathering, including inmates at Mihindu Seth Medura, senior Army officers, relatives and other invitees participated in the inaugural religious performances in the colourfully lit premises. Mr Rajapaksa mingling with the inmates did not forget to share a couple of thoughts with the inmates and inquired into the progress of their well-being during his stay at the place before his departure.

Management and administration of the ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’ with some 50 plus inmates as the one and only western province-based wellness resort, was entrusted to the Army after the Ministry of Defence, became highly impressed with the routine conduct of its affairs at the pilot ‘Abimansala’ wellness resort project at Anuradhapura, now fully operational with some 52 dependent War Heroes of the north central province.

Mihindu Seth Medura’s second anniversary arrangements include a mammoth alms-giving to the monks on Sunday (16) early morning before its interactive programmes get underway on Monday (17) with the participation of all the inmates and their family members.

A musical entertainment plus a lunch treat to all attendees in the same afternoon on Monday (17) culminates the second anniversary programmes.

Commandant at ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’, senior officers and other ranks on the directions of the Commander of the Army took measures to organize the event.
