Army Chief Pays Tribute To Fallen Gunners


Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA), one of the oldest and reputed regiments in the Sri Lanka Army, celebrating 125 years of service to the nation, commemorated their War Heroes who sacrificed their lives in the name of the Motherland, at a ceremony held at the Regiment’s War Memorial at SLA Regimental Centre, Panagoda on Thursday (18). Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, the Commander of the Army graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The Commander was welcomed by the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Artillery, Major General Jagath Rambukpotha and was accorded a guard turnout and a guard of honour by the officers and soldiers of the Regiment.

It was followed by a floral tribute to the SLA Monument in commemoration of Gunner War Heroes. Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya placed a floral wreath and paid his tribute followed by the Senior Officers and family members of the fallen War Heroes.

This is the second of a series of events lined up to mark the 125th anniversary of the SLA. On the 12th April, a commemorative stamp and a first day cover were issued by the Postal Department while the Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, President Mahinda Rajapaksa is scheduled to award the President’s and the Regimental Colours for the first time in the history of SLA at a spectacular anniversary celebration on 23rd April, at the SLA Regimental Headquarters, Panagoda.
