125th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment (SLA) was marked at Ministry of Postal Services auditorium this morning (12) when the Department of Postal Services of Sri Lanka released the 125th Anniversary Stamp and the First Day Cover during a brief ceremony.
Initial copy of the Stamp and the First Day Cover, depicting the soldiers of King Rajasinghe the 1st, the King of Sithawaka (1581 - 1593), defeating the Portuguese army in Colombo Fort in 1587, was ceremonially handed over to the Chief Guest, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya by the Postal Department officials.
The stamp, valued at Rs.5/=, carries a picture of the artillery gun manufactured by the military of King Rajasinghe, which was used in this battle.
Former Commanders of the Army, Colonel Commandant of SLA, Major General Jagath Rambukpotha, Serving and Retired Senior Officers of SLA, Postal department Officials and a large number of Officers were present at the occasion.
