Panagoda Army Families Grow Vegetables &;amp; Fruits


A programme to encourage residents in the Panagoda Kendalanda Army residential quarters for domestic vegetable-cultivations got underway throughout Tuesday (26), accompanied by a well-planned awareness programme plus a contest to select the best gardening family.

The programme, assisted by Agrarian Service Centre selected the best compound with most well-grown vegetables during the day after the campaign for cultivations began some months ago in the residential quarters.

The best compound with vegetables was awarded a cash prize of Rs 5000/= and second and third places received Rs 3000/= and 2000/= respectively. Security Force Headquarters-West organized the campaign with the objective of improving their life standards. Ten consolation prizes of Rs 1000/= were given to those who took part in the competition considering the quality of their cultivations.  

All the contestants were donated compost fertilizer bag each at the time of the awarding ceremony towards the end. Major General S.R Manawadu, Commander, SFHQ-West gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest gave away the prizes.
