Construction of the second wellness resort, ‘Abimansala-2’ at Wilpitawatte, Kamburupitiya, meant exclusively for dependent War Heroes in the South, is fast nearing completion, thanks to the enormous significance, attached to the prioritized need by both Commander of the Army himself and the fund-raising, ‘Brave Hearts’ project.
More than 50 South-based War Heroes, who actively contributed to bring peace to the country, fighting terrorism during ‘Humanitarian Operations’ a few years ago and became totally dependent, due to nature of disability, are to be housed shortly in this new sanatorium, replete with adequate access to all their therapeutic needs as per medical advice.
The whole notion of having such wellness resorts for all those who sacrificed their legs and limbs, took root in the mind of Secretary Defence who afterwards entrusted the project to the Commander of the Army for implementation. With the unfailing support of the Seva Vanitha Branch’s ‘Brave Hearts’ fund-raiser, the pilot ‘Abimansala-1’ wellness resort, saw its birth in Anuradhapura last year, accommodating more than 50 North Central Province resident dependent soldiers.
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army on Monday (8) morning together with a few Senior Officers, made a visit to the ‘Abimansala-2’ construction site at Kamburupitiya with a view to taking a firsthand assessment of its final phases, now fast nearing completion. The Army Chief during his sojourn on the site inspected each and every wing of the new complex and exchanged views with architects, technical staff, Army and civil engineers on hand.
During interactions, the Commander directed the workforce there to expedite the completion as plans are afoot to open the new centre within a few more weeks. He also told the Officers responsible to finalize the list of dependent War Heroes, expected to be brought there from different Southern villages, in consultation with their spouses, parents or guardians
The foundation stone for its construction was laid on 19 January 2012 and the new sanatorium-type resort is equipped with a swimming pool for hydrotherapy, gymnasium, physiotherapy unit, emergency unit, library, cafeteria and all other technical facilities of the best standards, needed for such dependent patients.
