Inter Regiment Athletics Championship - 2012 of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) at Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium drew to a close Wednesday (26) afternoon on a grand scale. The ceremonial closing of the championship tournament kicked off soon after the arrival of the Chief Guest Major General A.W.J.C De Silva, Commandant, SLAVF.
The welcome speech, delivered by Major General W.D.L.P Wickramasinghe, Deputy Commandant, SLAVF, traced SLAVF history and sports achievements, and extended greetings to the guests and participants in games.
Beautiful performances of Army Women’s Corps dancing troops, multi coloured band displays, drill sessions and a few more entertaining feats, added variety and colour to the day’s event. Several final rounds of sport events, including fun-making tug of war made the occasion more thrilling and interesting to the spectators.
Distribution of awards to the winners in the inter regiment meet by the Chief Guest and a few others signaled the ceremonial formal closure of the meet with retreat and lowering of flags.
A large gathering of senior officers and other ranks witnessed the day’s event.
