Ongoing Exercise 'Cormorant Strike III' Enters Final Phase


Exercise ‘Cormorant Strike III’, the three-week long joint military exercise, now underway in the East with the participation of 40 foreign military personnel, is reaching its final phase with several daring mock features.

The third of this kind began on 10th September after a comprehensive briefing before all military personnel under training proceeded to Verugal and Batticaloa areas for the Exercise proper.

Brigadier Ruwan Kulatunge, Director, Exercise ‘Cormorant Strike III’ said that 9 teams of 8-member Special Forces, together with the trainees of the ‘Cormorant Strike III’ are receiving training in the company of 11 officers and 29 other ranks of the Armed Forces in China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives and India.

The 16-day long joint military Exercise is comprised of mock ‘Raids on boat yards’, ‘Taking of high value targets’, ‘Reconnaissance’, ‘Surveillance on targets’, ‘Airborne operations’, ‘Seaborne operations’, ‘Amphibious landing’, ‘Path-finding missions’, ‘Para jump into enemy strongholds’, ‘Ambushes’, ‘Search operations’, ‘Counter terrorist actions and Hostage Rescue Mission,’ and suchlike and is a novel concept, mooted by Secretary Defence and Urban Development two years ago.

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, the tower of strength behind organizing the event on behalf of all three forces, is to attend final stages of the Exercise ‘Cormorant Strike III’.
