The ‘T-20 Murali Cup’ Tournament, organized by the Army in coordination with Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) and Security Forces Headquarters, Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) commenced after separate brief ceremonies at Kilinochchi Madaya Maha Vidyalaya ground, Mankulam Maha Vidyalaya ground and Oddusudan school play ground on Saturday (8).
The tournament (Sept 8 - 12), competed by cricket teams of northern and southern schools will take place both at Kilinochchi Madya Maha Vidyalaya grounds and Mankulam Maha Vidyalaya grounds before finals are played on Wednesday (12).
The combined Kilinochchi team, playing against Seenigama FOG team marked the inaugural event at the Army renovated Kilinochchi Madya Maha Vidyalaya play ground on Saturday (8).
On the same day, the first match of the tournament between the Mullaittivu combined team versus Dharmashoka College took place at Oddusudan School play ground. Both Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardana of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team attended the inauguration as Chief Guests. Troops of the 64 Division who built the new pavilion and renovated the play ground at Oddusudan school symbolically handed back them to the school authorities at the same occasion.
On the first day of the tournament, Seenigama FOG team and Army Women’s Cricket Team secured the victory. Matches were played at Kilinochchi Madya Maha Vidyalaya and Mankulam Maha Vidyala grounds.
The inaugural ceremony was witnessed by Kilinochchi District Secretary, Commander, SFHQ-KLN, Mahela Jayawardana and Kumar Sangakkara of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team, Deputy Inspector General of the Police, Kilinochchi, Mr Kusal Gunasekara, Chairman, Goodness Foundation, Senior Officers of the Security Forces, Senior Citizens and members of the clergy and a large gathering of civilians.
Commander, SFHQ-MLT, together with District Secretary for Mullaittivu, Thunukkai Zonal Director of Education, 68 and 64 Division Commanders, school principals and teachers, Assistant Government Agent for Oddusudan, unit commanders and a large gathering attended the inaugural occasion at Oddusudan school play ground.
Matches are to be played Mullaittivu Combined Team versus Dharmashoka College Team, Anuradhapura Central College Team versus Maliyadeva College Team, Mullaittivu Combined Team versus Anuradhapura Central College Team, Mullaittivu Combined Team versus Maliyadeva College Team and finals (male and female) will take place on Wednesday (12).
