Principal, teachers and students at Jaffna Vasavilan Primary School were overjoyed to commence their studies in the new term when they moved to Army-renovated buildings in the school complex after a request was extended to the Army by its principal.
Nearly 300 soldiers labored more than a week to renovate the buildings and gave a new facelift after colour washing. Soon after repairs, another batch of soldiers cleaned up the school premises and got rid of garbage in the premises.
The school’s principal, Mr Jude Mariyaratnam after taking over the renovated premises had a brief thanks-giving meeting where Zonal Director of Education, Mr Shanmuga Kulakumaran, Thelippalai Divisional Secretary, Mr K. Sri Mohan, Deputy General Manager, Jaffna Bank of Ceylon, Mr K.E.D Sumana Sri, Lieutenant Colonel G.A.L Kithsiri, Commanding Officer, 5 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops serving the area under 511 Brigade and a large gathering of students and teachers were present.
The principal during the brief meeting on Tuesday (4) profusely thanked the Army for its excellent work and thoughtfulness.
