The most venerated Jaffna’s Nallur Kandaswamy Temple held its annual Theru (buggy) festival with a sea of devotees on Thursday (16).
Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) as it did in the past provided the devotees this year too with 15,000 vegetarian lunch packets free of charge. Distribution of lunch packets was done across three locations in the area. Both local and foreign devotees participated in the Pooja on Thursday (16).
Hon Minister Douglas Devananda, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna Jaffna Mayoress Mrs. Yogeswari Pathgunarasa, Brigadier Piyal Wickramarathne, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division and Brigadier Ramesh Sanmuganathan, Brigadier Administration and Quartering Headquarters joined the massive crowd, attending the Pooja on Thursday afternoon.
As the main rituals were on, a Sri Lanka Air Force helicopter dropped a shower of flowers on the procession and showed respect to the ritual.
This year’s annual festival began on 24th July and culminated on 19th August with vairavashanthi ritual.
