More than 40 Muslim religious community leaders and Moulavis (Islamic clergy) of the Eastern Province gathered at the Security Forces Headquarters, East (SFHQ-E) at the request of the SFHQ-E in order to join an ‘Iftar’ (fast breaking ritual) on August 11.
Major General S.A.A Lal Perera together with those members of the clergy sat together and broke the fast, partaking of the breakfast and followed ‘Magrib’ prayers afterwards in conformity with Islamic traditions.
Those Muslim dignitaries exchanged views with the SFHQ-E Commander during the meeting on several matters of relevance to them. Their issues centred on drug menace, arrangement of more and more social and cultural events, etc with the intention of turning the Eastern Province to be one of the best Provinces.
Before those religious leaders took leave of the Commander, SFHQ-E, they presented a Sinhala copy of the Holy Al Quran to the host.
