Corporal M Dikiri Banda of the 5th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) set a laudable example in returning a Rs 40,000 parcel he came across at Puttur while strolling along the road.He handed over the money to his immediate superior who handed over the money to the Security Force Commander, Jaffna, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe.
He traced the person who lost the money and arranged a function to hand over the Rs 40,000. The woman had lost the money after pawning her jewels.
She had dropped the packet while taking it home. She was summoned by Major General Hathurusinghe and the money was returned to her in the Corporal's presence.
