Students of low-income families, attending Dimbulana Kanishta Vidyalaya in Welikanda Divisional Secretariat area recently received school books and accessories as gifts, following an initiative taken by Old Boys Association of Mahinda College, Galle.
Brigadier Mahinda Mudalige, himself an old Mahindian launched the project with the support of his colleagues in the Old Boys Association and visited Welikanda area, together with the donors.
Over 300 Muslim, Tamil and Sinhala students in the school received those school accessories on that occasion.
In addition, an eye clinic and a medical clinic, organized in the same area saw more than 400 patients examined and treated with distribution of some 300 spectacles in the area. All the attendees to both clinics were provided with a delicious lunch.
Organized by 24 Sri Lanka National Guard troops, the ceremony received Brigadier R.W.W.A.D.B Rajaguru, 64 Division General Officer Commanding attending it as the Chief Guest.
A large gathering including old Mahindians, headed by Brigadier Mudalige attended the inaugural ceremony.
