A mammoth ‘Sil’ observance campaign as one more segment of the series of commemorative events taking place in connection with the Army 62nd Anniversary and the Army Day (Oct 10) started off Friday (7) early morning at Panagoda Sri Bodhirajaramaya with the participation of about 3000 all ranks.
The ‘Sil’ programme, comprised of meditation sessions, Dhamma discussions, Dhamma sermons, offerings of alms and ‘Gilanpasa’ Buddha Pooja, recitations of stanzas, etc was organized by the Army Buddhist Association on the instructions of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya.
The string of religious ceremonies and arrangements to invoke blessings on the Army commenced on October 1, 2011 at Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, followed by Hindu, Islamic and Christian religious performances in sequence during past few days.
