ROKENG Serving UN Missions Accord Warm Welcome to Visiting Commander

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya's visit to Haiti's ROKENG Company (Republic of Korea's Engineering Company) serving the UN Peacekeeping Mission on Thursday (22), to which Haiti-based Sri Lankan UN Peacekeepers provide security round the clock, would no doubt continue to be a memorable one to Korean Peacekeepers, engaged in UN Engineering assignments.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya's arrival there was greeted with a formal military salute after the Commander of Korea's Engineering Company (ROKENG) welcomed the visiting Sri Lanka's Army Chief to his complex at the entrance. All the Korean staff officers serving the unit were then introduced to Lieutenant General Jayasuriya in accordance with military traditions.

Later on, the Commander had the rare privilege of viewing some photos of relevance to SRIBAT troops who have so far served the ROKENG in the past few years after the MINUSTAH was formed in Haiti.

A brief conference that ensued a couple of minutes later reviewed effective roles and tasks that have been so far carried out by SRIBAT troops serving the Leogane section. The Korean senior officers spoke high of SRIBAT's contribution towards ROKENG troops day and night and told the visiting Commander that SRIBAT troops were highly helpful and friendly. Lieutenant General Jayasuriya left his signature in the VIP book at ROKENG Headquarters afterwards as a symbol of memory after making a few comments to the forum.

At the conclusion of the review conference, the ROKENG Commander presented a memento to the visiting Commander as a token of memory of his visit to the ROKENG in Haiti. A fellow-lunch organized by ROKENG staff officers offered the visiting Commander a chance to taste both culinary delights of Korean and Sri Lankan menus.

Towards the final leg of the visit, the Commander was also shown the ROKENG's Buddha shrine, venerated by all soldiers in the ROKENG every day. Before the Commander's departure from the venue, Lieutenant General Jayasuriya presented a special plaque to the ROKENG Commander wishing his Company all the best. A copy of a group photo taken with the visiting Army Chief from Sri Lanka was also presented to Lieutenant General Jayasuriya at the same occasion.
