Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya as Chief Guest watched the finals in the Inter Regiment Volleyball Tournament Friday (22) evening at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.
Brigadier Sunil Wanniarachchi, Chairman, Army Volleyball Committee received the Chief Guest on arrival as the finalists, Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) and Gajaba Regiment (GR) teams were getting ready for the final encounter.
The tournament, competed by 24 teams of the Army including five women’s teams commenced on 5 July at Panagoda Army Volleyball ground where first, second and semi-final rounds took place after absence of several years.
The final tussle was won by GR against its rival, SLASC Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya after congratulating the winners gave away the Championship Trophy at the end of the final encounter.
Earlier, the third place of the tournament went to the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC) team. A large gathering of senior officers, soldiers and sport fans watched the final rounds.
