The Sri Lankan contingent, led by Chief of Staff of Army Headquarters Major General R.M.D. Ratnayake, includes 4 officials and 68 competitors who are to participate in Track and Field, Judo, Taekwondo, Beach Volleyball and Sailing events. Beach Volleyball is competed at the Military World Games for the first time this year.
The Military World Games inaugurated in 1995 in Rome to mark the golden jubilee of the conclusion of the World War II and signing of the UN Charter, takes place every 4 years, always one year prior to the Olympic Games.
4900 athletes representing 108 countries are competing in 20 sports and 195 events at this year’s games.
