The newly-built protective wall of the Bodhiya and the temple bell (Ghantara Sthambha) at historic Sri Sudarshanarama Viharaya in Vavuniya was unveiled by Hon. D.M Jayaratne, Prime Minister on Friday (01).
Troops serving Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W), on the instructions of Major General A.K.S Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W, threw their full weight behind construction of them at the invitation of the temple incumbent, Ven. Deshakeerthi Etambagaskada Kalyanatissa Nayaka Thero.
All ranks serving under 56 Division, 61 Division, 211 Brigade, 561 Brigade, 562 Brigade and 612 Brigade contributed their labour to those constructions for several weeks after free labour assistance was sought from the SFHQ-W.
Several private donors have helped the incumbent for construction.
The unveiling ceremony headed by Prime Minister was organized under the auspices of the temple incumbent with the support of the Security Forces serving the area. The Prime Minister was conducted to the venue in a simple procession before he unveiled a special plaque to mark the occasion.
Ven. Puravidya Chakrawarthi Ellawala Medananda Thero, Minister Rishad Badurdeen, Brigadier N.A.C.P Napagoda, General Officer Commanding 56 Division, Brigadier A Kariyakarawana, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division, Brigadier D.A.R Ranawaka, 561 Brigade Commander, District Secretary for Vavuniya Ms P.S.M Charles and a gathering of devotees and civilians attended the occasion.
