Mr S. Hariharan, Managing Director, Subhas Tourist Hotel, Jaffna, in a letter directed to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, has expressed his gratitude to the Army for the release of widely known, Subhas Tourist Hotel building, back to him.
While thanking the Commander of the Army for his ‘personal interest taken’ over the release of the Hotel, Mr Hariharan through this letter formally acknowledged the receipt of its custodianship back on 17th March 2011 as the Managing Director.
Troops serving the Jaffna peninsula, in compliance with the government’s directions, vacated Jaffna’s Subhas Hotel, the last of the Army-held private buildings in the Jaffna town High Security Zone (HSZ) on 4th March 2011 after re-locating the Army’s 51 Division in Kopay.
The famous, Subhas Hotel, taken over by the Army on lease on 2nd December 1995, following escalation of LTTE violence in the Jaffna township, was fully used by 51 Division troops as their headquarters until a section of the hotel was emptied several months ago, soon after the equally famous Gnanam Hotel was formally released to its owners.
