Gajaba Regiment Opens Its New Physiotherapy &;amp; Fitness Centres

The new Physiotherapy Unit and the Physical Fitness centre of the Gajaba Regimental (GR) Headquarters battalion at Senapura, Anuradhapura, built at a cost of Rs. 5.75 million, raised from Gajaba Supercross and Gajaba Mela entertainment projects, were ceremonially declared open recently by Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, Chairperson, Seva Vanitha Branch at Ministry of Defence.

The new Physiotherapy Unit and the Physical Fitness centre, remained a long-felt need for disable GR War Heroes who are housed at the Regimental Centre and the Headquarter battalion as they are supposed to undergo continuous therapy for physical improvement in view of the nature of their injuries and disabilities, sustained during their fight against terrorism in the past.

The exciting and renowned Gajaba Supercross 2010 motor race which attracted many fans and enthusiasts several months ago was able to collect more than half of the cost while the Gajaba Mela – 2010 musical evening raised the remainder for the cost of those constructions.

Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest opened both units in the presence of a large gathering of senior Army officers, other ranks and invitees after lighting the traditional oil lamp.

At the invitation of Major General S.W.L. Daulagala, Colonel of the Regiment and the Commander, Security Forces Headquarters South, Major General A.K.S. Perera, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni and several senior serving and retired Gajaba officers attended the formal opening ceremony.
