A consignment of 400 push bicycles plus school stationery and accessories, much needed for children of resettled families in Vavuniya and Mannar was recently distributed during ceremonies at Vavuniya Mattavaittakulam, Venusulan Educational and Computer Centre and Vedithalathivu.
Distribution of the stock, gifted by Ven Dr Bellanwila Dhammarathana Nayaka Thero, Religious Advisor, Buddhist Library, Singapore and Chief Incumbent, Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya took place, headed by Major General A.K.S. Perera, Commander Security Forces, Wanni and Competent Authority for Resettlement of the Displaced in the North.
During this ceremony, 75 students, carefully selected by school authorities received push bicycles in Vavuniya as the first symbolic gesture of the donation, attended by its sponsors, Ven B. Dhammarathana and a few other monks. The occasion was graced by additional District Secretary for Vavuniya, General Officer Commanding, 21 Division, senior Army and Police officers and a few other authorities in the Department of Education.
Meanwhile, a stock of 45 push bicycles from the same above consignment was gifted to resettled children in 541 Brigade, Mannar. The distribution took place at Vedithalathivu St Joseph Vass Maha Vidyalaya in the presence of Catholic clergy and Sisters, 54 Division Commander, senior Army and Police officers on Tuesday (11).
