Sri Lankan Troops Give Away Gift Parcels to Haiti Children

Sri Lankan troops serving the UN Peace Keeping Missions (SRIBAT) marked Christmas by gifting parcels of clothes to underprivileged local populace in Haiti.

On the Christmas night itself, 200 children and several adult families were treated to this Christmas treat during a special ceremony, organized by the SRIBAT headquarters in Leogane. Clothes produced in Sri Lanka were used for those gift parcels and Sri Lankan sweetmeats brought down particularly for this occasion were distributed among Haitians who participated in the Christmas bash.

SRIBAT troops, deployed in different places in Haiti also launched different Christmas programmes organizing distribution of food and clothes packets among low income groups. SRIBAT troops also visited orphanages and adult homes in the area and gave away gift parcels. Special Carols were also sung at these venues marking the religious importance of Christmas.  

Meanwhile, the SRIBAT headquarters managed to erect a new washroom complex for the convenience of SRIBAT troops. The entire construction was pursued by soldiers of the Sri Lanka Engineer Service Regiment and Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment serving the UN mission. All arrangements have been coordinated by SRIBAT Commanding officer Brigadier A.M.R Dharmasiri who also took part in the ceremonies.
