The first copy of ‘Viruvan Aesure Suvisi Wasarak’ (twenty-four years among war heroes), a catalogue of ground experiences in the battlefields, authored by Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thero who added an unceasing weight to the campaign against terrorism for over two decades, was presented to His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa respectfully received the maiden copy from the Ven. Nalaka Thero during a brief meeting at Temple Trees last evening (22) and thanked him for compiling all what he experienced in the battlefields as the humanitarian operations were progressing in the north and east against division of the country.
At the same occasion, the author also presented copies of his new book to President’s Secretary Mr Lalith Weerathunga, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Tisara Samarasinghe and Prof. Nalin de Silva, Dean, Faculty of Mathematics at University of Kelaniya who were in attendance.
Ven. Nalaka Thero, now a Presidential Advisor has been an ardent supporter of tri-services and a vociferous critic of the LTTE’s violence for separation of the country in the past two decades. Despite numerous threats to his own life, the monk braved to visits tri-service security sentries and all formations across the north and east and attended to the spiritual needs of War Heroes as well as the supply of most essential requirements in those camps and elsewhere.
Mustering all support for his cause from the southerners, Ven. Nalaka Thero, giving both moral and material support to War Heroes offered leadership to several patriotic organizations in the country during the peak of terrorism.
