Army troops in the 23 Division, Poonani have taken steps to build a new house for a widow with her 13 year old mentally retarded daughter in the area.
The family, sheltered in a hut at present at Boattha Village has lost its breadwinner and the widowed mother has been compelled to look after her mentally retarded 13 year old daughter.
On 5th July, Army troops commenced construction work of this house with the financial support, being given by the Colombo-based Vishwa Parami Foundation, following an initiative taken by the 23 Division General Officer Commanding.
In the meantime, 17 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (volunteer) soldiers conducted a renovation plus cleaning programme on the ancient Pulleyar Kovil, near Unnachchi tank last week. This is also one of the services among the 1500 projects that had been planned for the year 2010 by the Division.
