Kilinochchi SFHQ Marks Its First Birth Anniversary

SECURITY Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ-K) recently marked its first birthday anniversary with a chain of religious, community-oriented, sport and entertainment programmes.

Arrangements on 29th June at Iranamadu Army Camp, organized on the directions of the Commander, SFHQ-KLN on the very date of the first anniversary, included the opening of religious places of Buddhist and Hindu faiths, offer of alms to Buddhist clergy, new community centre for the public, cricket and football tournaments, musical evening, all ranks lunch and so on.

A colourful cultural parade (perahera), preceded by Buddhist and Hindu priests brought sacred replicas of the Buddha and Hindu deities to respective places for placement. Many youngsters from the area with decorated push bicycles added colour to the perahera.

At the beginning of the anniversary events, soldiers accorded a military salute to Major General Chandana Rajaguru, Commander, SFHQ-KLN at the headquarters premises. Public events were attended by many civilians in the area and the musical event brought amusement.

Kilinochchi, formerly a notorious den for LTTE terrorists and their leaders, remained a major transit point for the terror outfit plus a main financial centre before Security Forces flushed them out.
