PIRITH to bless country: An all-night pirith ceremony to invoke blessings on the Security Forces, Police and the country was held at the BMICH on Saturday with the participation of 3,000 Buddhist monks. Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa took the casket of Relics of the Buddha to be placed in the Pirith Mandapaya before the ceremony began. President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Ministers and MPs also participated.
The religious ceremony was organized on directives of Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, in memory of the valiant members of the armed forces who had sacrificed their lives battling terrorists.
Malwatte Maha Nayake the Most Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera and the Asgiriya Maha Nayake Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkhita Thera headed the Pirith chanting ceremony.
The Jaya Piritha was chanted by the Maha Sangha to invoke blessings on the country, President Mahinda Rajapaksa and all the valiant men and women who led the island nation to great heights with the defeat of LTTE terrorists. Also, tribute was paid to war heroes for their courage, determination and sacrifice in the defence of the nation.
The general public was also allowed to participate at this religious event for the first time. Defence Ministerial officials, the three Forces Commanders, Inspector General of Police and a large number of distinguished individuals including injured war heroes were also present at the occasion.
