GOVERNOR Karunaratne Divulgane and Chief Minister for North Central Province Berty Premalal Dissanayake in the company of Tri-service Area Commanders and Police personnel, over 800 members of fallen War Heroes, disable War Heroes, school cadets and civilians paid their respect to the memory of fallen War Heroes and their victories Friday (14) morning during a dignified ceremony, held at Anuradhapura Salgado public esplanade, in close proximity to the Anuradhapura War Hero Memorial.
Governor for North Central Province (NCP) Karunaratne Divulgane was the Chief Guest at this NCP commemorative ceremony, where a special display of ‘Rana Bera’ beating and ‘Rana Gee’ recital adorned the day’s itinerary, robbing the appreciation of everyone.
After special guests lit the traditional oil lamp and attended the flag hoisting, the gathering observed a two-minute silence, recalling sacrifices of War Heroes and the memories of their victories for the sake of the country.
As bugles rent the air, all invitees in the company of Tri-service personnel and family members of War Heroes lined up and went on placing floral wreaths at the foot of the War Hero Memorial at Anuradhapura. The scene was moving as small children knelt down at the memorial with flowers in hand. Cadets from Anuradhapura St. John’s College also added colour to the occasion.
Towards the end of the programme, cultural troupes from the North Central Province Cultural Foundation contributed to the event, displaying their artistic talents.
