Commander's Vision for Enhanced Welfare Measures Comes to Fruition

RAPID expansion and promotion of welfare measures of the Army, exceptionally prioritized under the military leadership of Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya after he took reins as 19th Commander of the Army has now come to fruition as more and more accommodation facilities for Army personnel on tour were being made now available to soldiers in remote tourist destinations as part of the welfare package.

Thursday’s (29) opening of newly-built two holiday bungalows, adjacent to the popular ‘Thal Sevana’ holiday resort in Kankesanturai, with 16 well-furbished rooms plus a new dining hall for Army personnel, is expected to provide much-awaited relief to both officers and soldiers, planning a sojourn in Jaffna with their families. Jaffna-based Army soldiers with the active support of the engineers constructed these two new bungalows within a matter of few months with Army funds.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya symbolically cut a ribbon at the entrance to those two holiday bungalows by the seaside, unveiled a plaque to the effect and declared it open on Thursday (29) as rounds of applause thundered.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya was received on arrival at the venue by Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces, Jaffna who later on invited his Commander Lieutenant General Jayasuriya to inspect the interior of the buildings since all facilities inside are of modern nature.

A few minutes later, Lieutenant General Jayasuriya made an inspection tour on another holiday wing, yet to be opened, close to the same ‘Thal Sevana’ premises. This new building still under construction for the exclusive use of other ranks is to be completed shortly according to Army teams, engaged in the construction.

Commander of the Army before his exit from the premises thanked all those laboured to make the project a success and planted a mango sapling in the compound as a token of memory of his visit to the ‘Thal Sevana’ holiday bungalow complex.
