Army Uncovered LTTE Medical Equipment Delivered to Mullaittivu Hospital

A MASSIVE stock of LTTE used medical accessories and equipment uncovered by Army troops from Mullaittivu areas during Wanni Humanitarian Operations and kept safe hitherto was recently delivered back to the newly-opened Mullaittivu General Hospital authorities by the Security Forces Headquarters, Mullaittivu at a simple ceremony.

The stock, worth more than Rs. 15 million comprising twenty wheel chairs, complete sets of usable anaesthesia injections, operating tables, trolleys, surgical equipment, sterilizers, surgical beds, etc     was officially handed over to Dr A.E. Gnanajothi, Provincial Director, Medical Services at the Mullaittivu General Hospital by Major General Athula Jayawardena, Commander Security Forces, Mullaittivu in the presence of a large gathering.

Dr. Gnanajothi acknowledging the receipt of the stock profusely thanked the Army for their safe-keeping so long until it was handed over back in usable condition. He also has reportedly commented that the entire stock of those medical accessories could be used for treatment of civilians who seek medical advice after resettlement in hospitals or at peripheral levels.

Major General Jayawardena while assuring the continuous Army support at all times for betterment of the civil community in the Mullaittivu district told the gathering that the Army in the future too would take steps to make different donations to the Mullaittivu health authorities in whatever the way possible.

Dr. T. Punkoththi, Medical Officer at Mullaittivu General Hospital, nurses and members of the medical and civil staff, Major General L.A.D. Amarathunga, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 59 Division, Brigadier E.T. Thanjarathnam, Colonel L. Wijesundara, Lieutenant Colonel P.A. Dayananda, Civil Coordinating Officer at SFHQ- Mullaittivu and a gathering of senior citizens in the area attended the occasion.
