31 Ex – LTTE Combatants Rehabilitated &;amp; Released

THIRTY-ONE more former LTTE combatants, some of now qualified even  to receive admission to Universities and High Schools for higher studies as ordinary citizens in the country happily joined their loved ones on Sinhala and Hindu New Year day (April 14th) at Kaitady, Jaffna after their rehabilitation at the Kaitady Rehabilitation Centre was over.

The simple ceremony in connection with their release after they surrendered to the Security Forces during the peak of the Wanni Humanitarian Operations last year saw many of their parents and loved ones embracing their siblings with glee and incredibility as they re-joined the mainstream of society, shunning LTTE’s brutal violence, death and destruction.

Major General M. Hathurusinghe, Commander Security Forces, Jaffna and Mr K. Ganesh, District Secretary for Jaffna on that rare occasion extended their best wishes to all 31 of them and gave away gift parcels. The government has assured all assistance to those rehabilitated youngsters in the future too. The group included nine school boys, three school girls, two university aspirants, six youngsters, one elderly woman and several others. Their parents and guardians were highly impressed and delighted to receive those rehabilitated former LTTE combatants into their care since LTTE violence was no more.
