Relief Village Inmates Enjoy New Year Festival in Wanni

A SINHALA and Hindu  New Year festival organized at Menik Farm Kadirgarmer relief village in Vavuniya on the instructions of Major General G.D.H.K. Gunaratne, Commander Security Forces, Wanni and Competent Authority for Internally Displaced People (IDP) in the North was conducted on 11th April 2010.

 Throughout the day, organizers conducted various New Year associated traditional games among the inmates and distributed valuable gifts for best performances in those competitions. As the dusk fell, the popular ‘Red Arrows’ music band and the ‘National Youth Services Council’ music band added their melodies to the crowd  and entertained them. Sinhala and Tamil singers from Jaffna and Colombo joined hands together to provide dancing music to the occasion.

 The ceremony was attended by the former Minister Mr Rishard Badurdeen, Wanni Commander Major General Kamal Gunaratne, Brigadier A.S. De Z. Wickremaratne, Brigadier N.A.P.C. Napagoda, Brigadier A.W.M.A.W.N. Ranawana, Brigadier R. Rathnasinham, Brigadier M.A.M. Dias, a large number of officers and other ranks and people from other relief villages. It was coordinated by Colonel N.K. Wadugodapitiya. Efforts of the Army for its success were highly appreciated by all those who joined the celebrations.
