AFTER eradicating LTTE terrorism from the Northern and Eastern soil, the victorious Army is now engaged in supporting the people in those areas to improve their living conditions. It has expanded the scope of public community-oriented work in all north east areas.
One among many projects launched by the Army in the East was the cleaning of the Kinniadi Bus Stand by the troops in 234 Brigade on 1st march 2010, with the participation of people in the area.
They also fixed a “beacon light” worth Rs. 168,000/= on the Kalladi beach at the request of the members at Kalladi Fisheries Society, the same day (01). A one-hour long lecture on public health was also organized by the Army Health Inspector. Troops in Kaluvankerni village the same day (01) with the participation of a large number of villagers and some soldiers from the Brigade conducted a Sharamadana in the area.
The troops also donated exercise book parcels to twenty kids from Michchinagar pre-school on 26th February 2010.
Army troops of 234 Brigade donated a stock of valuble books to Batticaloa Teacher Training Collage library on 2nd March 2010 with the participation of Army Officers, lecturers and teacher trainees of the collage. Troops also conducted self-help (shramadana) projects to clean the premises of Karadiyanaru Maha Vidyalaya and Kirankulam Maha Vidyalaya in Batticaloa on 3rd March 2010. The residents in the area assisted the Army in carrying out those projects. A Dengue prevention campaign was also carried out in Kirankulam area by the troops.
Meanwhile, 233 Brigade troops conducted self-help (shramadana) project to clean the Milk Board Premises and surrounding area with the1 participation of people in the area on 4th March 2010.
