SRI LANKA Army troops, more thoughtful of the future of budding students in Wanni, affected due to cycle of LTTE violence in the past are busy converting former temporary IDP shelters at Manik Farm Relief Village into class rooms for conduct of more classes of Vavuniya Gamini Maha Vidyalaya.
Since 95% of the IDPs at Manik Farm Relief Village Zone No. 5 have now left for resettlement in their original places of residence, Major General Kamal Guneratne, Competent Authority for Northern IDP Resettlement cum Commander, Security Forces, Wanni, in response to concerns of Gamini Vidyalaya, Vavuniya has readily agreed to accommodate 15 more class rooms inside those 3 previous IDP shelters that have already been vacated and were remaining unused after exit of IDPs.
As return of normalcy to the Wanni promoted prospects for more and more educational facilities and learning opportunities, almost all the schools in war affected Wanni began to revive and commenced functioning as the ‘Uthuru Wasanthaya’ crept in and did repairs and renovations. As a result, the number of students seeking admission to schools in the areas dramatically swelled and more and more places in schools were sought.
Army troops at Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W) within a matter of few days completely renovated the buildings and prepared the necessary infrastructure to accommodate those 15 class rooms of the Gamini Vidyalaya. They are to be given to the school formally very soon. 211 Brigade troops who actively contributed to the project came in for praise by parents and tutorial staff at Gamini Vidyalaya. Colonel R.M.P.J. Rathnayake who evaluated the congestion at Gamini Vidyalaya assured the principal of the continuous Army support for smooth conduct of school affairs after some of those classes were moved into the former IDP centre.
