PRESS RELEASE
FORMER Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka, taken into military custody last night (8) on charges of committing alleged fraudulent acts and military offences has been provided with full security and protection under detention.
His lawyer as well as the family has been granted unhindered access to the detainee and full medical assistance as required has been offered as indicated by him.
Any Officer/Soldier who commits any offence and thereafter ceases to be a person subject to military law may be taken into military custody and kept in military custody and be tried and punished for that offence by a Court Martial under Section 57 of the Army Act. Necessary legal action will be instituted against him in accordance with the provisions in the Army Act.
