Seva Vanitha Extends more Assistance to War Heroes &;amp; their Families

THE SEVA VANITHA ARMY BRANCH (SVAB) awarded some more valuable donations to War Heroes and scholarships to their children in a simple ceremony, held this morning (24) at the indoor sports complex, Army Headquarters.

Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapaksa, First Lady attended the occasion as the Chief Guest. She was received on her arrival by Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch.

Mrs. Kusum Wickramanayake, Hon. Prime Minister’s wife and Ioma Rajapaksa, President Seva Vanitha Branch, Ministry of Defence were also among the distinguished invitees at the occasion.

As part of the day’s programme, fifty school children of War Heroes who are still in active service received scholarships worth Rs. 10,000/= each from the Chief Guest.

Bank of Ceylon “Lake House” branch sponsored  “Savings Accounts” given in favour of those school children.

The next of kin of a War Hero who made the supreme sacrifice and four more who are totally disable due to battlefield injuries received a sum of Rs. 250,000/= each to complete their houses still under construction.

Twenty more toilet commode sets received from philanthropists in New Zealand were also distributed among  War Heroes on the occasion.  Mr. Channa Ranasinghe, a school-time friend of the Commander of the Army and also the Chairman of New Zealand United Sri Lanka Association had sponsored this donation.
