No Deductions, Rs 2,500 Added to Salary – Military Spokesman

MILITARY Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara denied the rumours that the Security Forces’ and Police personnel’s certain allowances will be deducted from their salary when Rs 2,500 will be added to their salary.

Addressing the media yesterday at the MCNS, Brigadier Nanayakkara said President Mahinda Rajapaksa had taken steps grant another Rs. 2,500 allowance to the Security Forces and Police personnel.

There was a rumour that the Government will deduct some of their allowances, specially the difficult area allowance of the Army and add the newly introduced allowance Rs 2,500 to their salary.

It is completely incorrect and aimed at misguiding the public, Security Forces and Police.  All existing allowances plus the Rs. 2,500 allowance will be paid to the Security Forces and Police personnel,” he added.  He said that the retired and retiring soldiers and officers’ pension has been increased by 20 percent.

The Security Forces personnel who have retired and are retiring after 22 year service or of the age of 55 will be receiving 85 percent of their salary as pension. (Courtesy: Daily News)
