THE Government has imported another fleet of heavy vehicles to be used in the development of the Northern Province under its Uthuru Wasanthaya programme. They had been imported under the guidance of Mr Basil Rajapaksa MP, the Senior Advisor to HE the President.
The official handing over of those 83 heavy machinery and vehicles to the respective Government institutions took place on Wednesday (23) morning at Galle Face, Colombo with the participation of a distinguished gathering including Mr Basil Rajapaksa MP, the Chinese Ambassador HE Yang Xiuping, Admiral (Retd) Wasantha Karannagoda, Secretary to the Ministry of Highways, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya and Major General Deepal Alwis, Chief Engineer in the Army.
The fleet of vehicles that include 46 Backhoe loaders, 04 cargo trucks fixed with loading cranes, 12 farm tractor with broom attachments, 09 bitumen sprayers, 01 decanting plant, 02 chip sealers and 09 Bitumen bowsers cost the government about Rs. 2.3 billion.
