Vihara Mahadevi Students Build House for Commando Regiment War Hero

A land donation made by parents of a senior Army Officer enabled an amputee-soldier in the Commando Regiment receive a new house, built with the lavish support extended by exemplary students at Kiribathgoda Vihara Mahadevi Balika Vidyalaya.

Mrs Judith Rajapakse, President, Commando Regiment Seva Vanitha Unit ceremonially handed over keys to the newly-erected house at Matale last week in the presence of Mr and Mrs N.C Aluvihare, donors of the land plot and parents to Major Milinda Aluvihare, an officer in the Commando Regiment.  Major General Srinath Rajapakse, Regimental Commander, Commando Regiment gave his fullest cooperation for the project.  
 
The Commando Regiment soldier, Lance Corporal T.B.G Thalagaspitiya, a War Hero who fought during final Wanni battles lost both of his legs and remains differently-able. Major Milinda Aluvihare whose parents had earlier also donated three land blocks for the same purpose of building three more houses for War Heroes. This was the fourth house, built at a cost of about Rs. 1 million, thanks to the funds collected by students at Kiribathgoda, Vihara Mahadevi Balika Vidyalaya. This school has taken an enormous interest in the project since the proposal was made to them. A representative gathering including the Principal, tutorial staff, students, senior officers in the Commando Regiment attended the simple ceremony at Matale.
